milagros & robert

This wedding was a very special wedding in my career. It was like coming home. It seemed that it was somehow meant to be. I first spoke to Milagros one night when she told me their wedding photographer had passed tragically. There are no words that can make that better, but I tried anyway. It turned out that they were getting married at St. Joseph Catholic Church, which was my home church and school for more than 12 years. I wasn't the first choice of photographers, but when necessity demanded, it seemed that it was exactly right that I was the one they found. There were so many obstacles, from a pandemic that prevented the ability to hold a reception, to family not being able to travel to attend the wedding, to the loss of a wonderful woman who should have been there to capture a beautiful day, to injury moments before the ceremony was to start. One thing was certain, though, and that's the fact that Milagros and Robert would get married on May 31, 2020, no matter what. It was more important to stand together as one despite everything trying to prevent it. The wedding Mass was absolutely beautiful and they were surrounded by people who believe in their love and commitment to each other and their church. It doesn't happen often that I come across people who are truly gracious and appreciative of everything they have vs everything that could have and did go awry. Milagros and Robert are two of those people. I am so grateful that they were brought into my life. I am so grateful I was given the opportunity to celebrate their marriage with them.
